Approached via a long private drive, Down House Farm is a beautifully characterful period farmhouse set in an elevated position on a working sheep farm.
Sleeping up to 10 guests across five bedrooms, with two bathrooms and an en-suite, it's the ideal base for families and groups who want space, comfort, and countryside charm.
Inside you'll find two reception rooms and a large modern kitchen-diner with an expansive cooker — perfect for long, leisurely meals together. A separate utility area keeps the practicalities tucked away.
Outside, a private fenced garden with bench seating and a patio area invites you to slow down and take in the views — Dartmoor and the Teign Valley by day, and some of the most spectacular starry skies you'll ever see by night.
We are just 13 minutes to the University of Exeter and 13 minutes to Dartmoor. Exeter Airport is 27 minutes away. Exeter train stations are within 15 minutes drive away.

The farmhouse is perfectly positioned as a base to explore the wider region. Dartmoor National Park and the beautiful Teign Valley are right on your doorstep, and on clear days you can see Exeter city from the property.
Keep your eyes peeled during your walks — the farm is home to a wonderful variety of birds and local wildlife, and the team can suggest walking trails to suit all ages and abilities.

One dog is welcome by prior arrangement — just let us know when you enquire. You may also be greeted by our two female working Border Collies, who have been known to pop round and say hello!
Down House Farm is a working sheep farm. Your hosts will be around somewhere on the farm throughout your stay — as involved or hands-off as you'd like. Help and local knowledge are always available if you need it. You'll have free use of 180 acres of farm and woodland for walks, with the exception of fields where sheep are grazing.

We are thrilled to have hosted both wedding guests and bridal parties at the farmhouse, and are close to Higher Eggbeer farm, as well as Pynes House, The Oak Barn at Hittisleigh, Dunsford, Crediton and several venues at Shillingford Abbot.
We are conveniently located at EX6 7SA, with good access to the A30 for connectivity.

Just wanted to say how beautiful Down House Farm is. Masses of space inside and out, a mere 5 mins from the main road but no road noise and you feel like you're in wilderness. The hosts were incredible and made the weekend for us.

Bike Touring groups
From groups of walkers enjoying Dartmoor both young and old, and cyclists exploring Haldon Forest we love hosting all our interesting and enthusiastic guests.
We have also had several Motorbike Touring Groups use our house as a base on their exploration trips, coming from near or far, including the Netherlands, France and Spain.
